“BAU BEER” CAN DESIGN

My first beer can!

The can is a one-off prototype and I designed it for the contest CREATE YOUR BEER by MUSEO BAU and GIMMEMORE CRAFTBEER .

I was ranked 3rd in the competition.

To accomplish this, I surfed the place in Google Street View and picked some graffiti which I reproduced on a section of a street made on paper with ink, markers and watercolour.

A handmade drawing was the best to bring the grit and the physicality of the street onto the can.
For the areas where the text had to appear, I choose an artwork with uniform red and blue patches of color.
For the central part, more scattered and spontaneous graffiti.

Instead of creating a design inside that guitar-pick shape that is featured in the packaging, I’ve actually immersed that shape into a real, lived-in street scenario.

The dogs - dressed in an urban way - were very naturally the protagonists (also paying tribute to the Bau museum mascotte). The breeds that I chose actually refer to two dogs that are part of my family: Jaco the Jack Russel and Giusto the Cane Corso.

Here are some of the sketches.

The brief was to talk about Street Art and the Milanese neighborhood of Bovisa, which is finding its new identity starting from its Street Art and the presence of the Politecnico Design University.

I hope soon all this can come into use with a real drinkable beer can!
